Last Two Stops in Italy

Last Two Stops in Italy

After leaving Cinque Terre, we spent two nights in two places on our way to France.

Nervi, Genoa

The first was the Nervi neighborhood of Genoa.  We had been to Genoa before for the day, last year on the world cruise.  This time, we stayed in the neighborhood many consider to be the best in Genoa, with a fabulous seafront walk.  We stayed in a ground floor apartment with a yard, which was a wonderful place to hang out and eat our evening meals.  The seafront walk lived up to its billing, and we had a great lunch along the way to celebrate Kevin’s birthday.  While we didn’t go into the center of Genoa (because we had been there last year), easy transportation is available to do so, making this neighborhood ideal for those who would like a bit more tranquil place to stay while still having easy access to tourist sights.

Camporosso

Camporosso was our final Italian stop.  It is very close to the Italian/French border.  Each country has their own train lines, and while some cross borders, most don’t.  Since we would need to switch trains in this area anyway, we decided to stay for a two nights to check it out.

It was a holiday weekend (over May 1st, when most of the world celebrates Labor Day), so it was difficult to find an Airbnb, so we ended up reserving something using booking.com.  The place was fine, but we did not have the ability to cook meals (other than a microwave).  Also, grocery stores were closed on the holiday.  So, we ended up eating out more than normal, which isn’t a big problem, just not our normal preference.

As has been true everywhere on the Ligurian coast, there was a nice seaside walk.  We ate lunch and dinner at two different seafront restaurants, the second being one recommended by the hosts of the place we were staying.

It was a nice short stay to wrap our time in Italy.
