Updated April 2023 to remove one of the recommended restaurants. Unfortunately, the standards have diminished to a point where I can no longer recommend the restaurant.

In my last post I wrote about Casa Mercedes, a highly recommended special occasion restaurant. There are also a few more casual restaurants in Guanajuato where we like to eat.
We went to two of them recently, on Kevin’s birthday.
The second is Habibti Falafel. It might seem strange to some that we would eat in a Middle Eastern restaurant in Mexico. However, as I wrote in my post about our trip to Querétaro, we sometimes (more like any time we can find them) eat in restaurants with food that is difficult to find in Mexico, particularly if it is a type of food we generally do not cook at home. This was our second trip to this restaurant, and it was just as outstanding as the first. Some of the best falafel that I have had anywhere, stuffed grape leaves (another of my favorites), hummus (another favorite), tabouli – all outstanding. Also, this restaurant is vegan, a plus for me. I am not vegan, but I am lactose intolerant, so I like ordering vegan when available because then I don’t need to worry about being able to digest it properly. Better yet when the entire menu is vegan, because then I can order anything I want. This restaurant also has some micro brews that Kevin likes so that was why he chose it. I had kombucha, something I enjoy but Kevin does not.
We ended the evening relatively early with a glass of wine on our terraza, our normal favorite place to have our evening meal.
