We recently took a three-night trip to the small town of Santa Rosa de Lima, approximately a 20-minute drive from Guanajuato. We stayed in a cabin near town, but with mountain and forest views. We ate in a few of the restaurants in town, bought a few groceries in the tiendas, took some walks/hikes (one longer), and generally enjoyed relaxing in a quieter environment than home.
Our cabin was very nice with a great view.
Our first night we ate at Restaurante de la Sierra. This restaurant is known for having good traditional Mexican food and is a popular stop when traveling between Guanajuato City and Dolores Hidalgo. It was a block or so from our cabin.
The first day we took a walk on a dirt road accessible from near our cabin, based on directions provided by our Airbnb host. The walk led to great scenery and several small villages.
On our second full day at the cabin, we took a walk approximately 10 miles/18 kilometers roundtrip to Presa Peralillo, a reservoir that has camping, fishing, etc. The walk gained additional elevation and went through some villages. I was curious as to how I would do on this long of a walk and I am glad to say that it wasn’t a problem at all! I wasn’t tired that day or sore the next day. I guess I am doing fairly well for someone in my late 50s (and Kevin for someone in his early 60s)!
